Spanish Inquisition 2017

The Event:

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition … again!

Enjoy mayhem, merriment, and fun as Lochmere will be surprised by the Spanish Inquisition arriving in January 2017! There will be performances, arts, fun, frivoloty, and feasting. Come and enjoy! Please see Lochmere’s Event page for the latest information.

 


A&S 

Competitions and open display:

  1. Embroidered pillow competition, preferably in the Spanish style
  2. Any arts and sciences from 1500s Spain.

Each of the above will have a novice winner and an overall winner.

  • There will also be an open display.

Bardic Competition: 

There will also be a bardic competition, which Lady Scholastica will run. It will be a “Bardic Madness” style event. Please tuned for details.

Performing Arts / Commedia: 

You may find roving inquisitors questioning volunteers among the populace throughout the day. A prize will be given to the best question. Additionally, there are rumors the inquisitors might perform a skit.

Classes: There are currently 4 classes expected to be taught during the day:

  1. Hebrew Poetry Reflecting Life in Spain’s Golden Age, by Lady Katarzyna Witkowska (University credit)
  2. Fun with Herbs (Children are Welcome), by Lady Katarzyna Witkowska (University/Page credit)
  3. The Inquisition – Facts and Fallacies, by Lady Mary Agnes
  4. Scribal Playtime/Class hosted by Lady Thea de Nes and Lady Aemilia Rose

 

Lunch: A lunch will be available for purchase

 

Feast: A glorious (and well researched) feast will be served by the talented Lady Lisette la Roux. Feast space is limited to about 80 seats, so please  register early. Please contact her with any dietary concerns/questions.The menu is not completely nailed down yet, but to tantalize you, here is the current feast idea:

First Course
  • Figs prepared in a French manner (sweet spiced figs)
  • Olives
  • Spanish Cheese
  • Bread with Butter
  • Clarea from Water (Spiced Water)
Second Course
  • Empanada de Carne o Pescado (meat or fish pastry)
  • Emperador en Pan Empanada (Swordfish in Crust)
  • Espinacas Picadas (Spinach with Bacon and Cheese)
  • Garbanzos in Onions and Almodrote
  • Casserole of Eggs and Carrots
Third Course
  • Menya D’Angels (Angel’s Food: Sweetened Cheese with Orange Blossom)
  • Mel i Mato (Fresh cheese with Honey)
  • Bunyols

 

Merchanting Information:

An 8’x8′ space will be provided to merchants at a  cost of $5, which includes a table. Lists of  merchants will be posted to the website closer to  the event. Space is limited, so register early.The Merchant Coordinator is Eadric the Potter (Rob Van Rens), thatpotteryguy@gmailcom, 240/367-2862

From the North:
Make your best way to US50 in Annapolis, MD.
Take MD 2 south. Approximately 13-14 miles
down the road, you will get to a traffic circle.
Continue on Rt. 2 by taking the 3rd exit for about
another 3 miles. St. James will be on your left,
across from the park-and-ride.

From the East/South:
Make your best way to DC Beltway in Prince
George’s County. Take the eastbound exit for MD
4 heading towards Upper Marlboro. Continue on
MD4 from the beltway for about 18 miles.At that
point take the exit for MD258/259 Bristol/Deale,
and follow MD258 for about 4.6 miles until you
intersect with MD2. Make a left, St. James Parish
will be on your right.
